Going After What I Really Want!

Going After What I Really Want!

I have always said, if I could do anything - anything I wanted to do with my life it would be Photography.  Many have said to me, "well photography is nice, but you need to have a back up plan in case you fail."  Or "Your a single mom, you have to be more practical. You need to establish a career first." The most discouraging comment, "You need to get a legit job!"

But you know what?  I would rather be disliked for who I am, than be liked as a carbon copy of who people want me to be.

It's not in me to sit behind the same desk, in the same cubical, doing the same mundane routine every day of the week, aside from dropping my child off at daycare to be raised by strangers. (No offense to those mothers who do. We all gotta do what we gotta do, right?)

I don't want that for me. I can't breath behind a desk. I don't want that ... for me.

Sure I might have a lot to learn about photography. Sure I'm totally broke and grasping at straws when it comes to marketing myself and creating a brand, but I'm all in!  Everything I've got goes into my photography!  Why? Because I believe in myself. I know I was given this gift!  I will not waste it.  I will not lay down and give up my dreams because some would believe it's not "practical" for a single mom.

But what's practical for a single mom anyway? Us single moms know better than anyone what hard work is. We know how to "suck it up" and keep on going forward, despite our disadvantages and struggles. We know how to move with the flow and flex around scrambled schedules, school plays, doctor's visits and hugs & kisses!

Success for me, is being able to work full time doing what I love. Success is working at home in my pj's if I wanted! I am a success if I can spend the quality part of my day with my children vs. traffic and long days in an office.

I want to raise my glass at the end of the day and say "congratulations Tanya! You did it girl! You had a dream and you made it happen! Despite all the odds you made it happen!

Success.  I choose success.  I will do this!  I will make this happen! I will pursue what I love and enjoy my family while I'm at it!

I think I'll write a song about it!  Just kidding. But seriously. My passion for music, birthed my passion for photography. I guess that just makes me an artist. I ... am an artist.

I am a Mother.

I am a child of God.

I am an artist.

I am a success!
