Her blog is real, offering real accountability and resources for photographers from all ends of the spectrum. Those who are just getting their feet wet, to the full time pro's. You will find tips, tutorials, and so much more in every sentence you read!

I was struggling so much when I first decided that Photography was what I wanted, no needed to do. For the last 5 years I have had little direction, and almost no hope that I would ever achieve the things I really wanted in this business.  I was exasperated and ready to just throw in the towel.

That's when I discovered Jasmine Star. It is through her blog and web presence that I began to dream big for myself again. She showed me how to breathe again!  How to open myself up and be vulnerable again. I have been able to entirely re-vamp my business. Something I've wanted to do for years, but just never knew how. Ya know? I really had no clue at all what I really wanted to shoot? I was all over the map!  So I just did everything! Weddings, second shooting weddings, family portraits, lifestyle, senior, head shots, editorial, real estate, child, you name it, I did it!

Then I payed close attention to her speech at the OC Photo Summit last year. She asked photographers to answer the question WHY are we in this business. WHY did we choose a certain clientele? It was this question that caused me to finally pause and ask myself why I couldn't seem to stick with a "niche" nor find one that truly have me vision and passion?  I realized I had to get personal with my business. So got honest with myself and admitted that being a single mom has be the hardest thing I've ever experienced!  Going through pregnancy alone has been the most emotionally trying experience of my life!  It was then that I realized I should go out on a limb and shoot Maternity. Maternity is something that is close to me. Something I know inside and out. Something I've felt, loathed, enjoyed, all the things expectant mother can feel during this monumental time in our lives!

So I shut down my business for a few months. Stopped shooting anything at all and began to re-vamp my image.  Finally things began to fall into place!  Once I decided I didn't have to scramble from "senior portrait" to "wedding" to "family" sessions I became free to pursue strictly Maternity clients. In 5 years of being in this business, I've never had business cards. Then I began to shoot Maternity. I now have business cards that express who I am accurately and that I am proud to pass out.

My website now more accurately reflects my intentions and vision and I couldn't be happier. So if you need a new vision for your business I encourage you to make an effort to discover Jasmine Star for yourself!  You won't regret it.

As photographers it's so important that we build a strong community. It can make the business side of things so much less daunting. We need to put aside the need to compete and compare and come together to uplift and encourage one another.

We have so much on the line when we dive into this business. It can been both a great feeling, and incredibly scary!  But we have so much to gain when choosing to pursue our goals for our business!  Stop looking at the things you don't have, or the things you want, and start looking at your business from the inside out!

If you want your business to be your full time job, evaluate honestly where your weakness are?

Who are your target clients?

What are marketing strategies?

How well do you balance your shooting schedule and home life?

We have to be vulnerable when we put ourselves out there!

So do you have big plans for your business?  Get excited and re-inspired, and go check out Jasmine Star!

You've got nothing to loose!
